When the police may impose a fine?

A police officer may impose a fine for committing a minor offence (such as e.g.drinking alcohol in public places, or causing danger while driving) in the event when:
- the offender has been caught red-handed or directly after committing the offence,
- a police officer witnesses committing an offence or, in the absence of the offender, decides with the use of measuring or control devices (e.g. a speed camera), that an offence has been committed, and there is no doubt as to the offender's identity (a photo from a speed camera clearly captured our car, and not the whole motorcade)

The maximum fine is 500 zł, unless we have committed two or more minor offences at once (then the maximum value is 1000 PLN).
