HUMANDOC FILM FESTIVAL

10th December, 2 p.m.- 8p.m., Homo Faber, ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 39
admission FREE

The festival is the first cultural and educational event of this kind in Eastern Europe. It presents prize-winning film documentaries from Sundance Film Festival (USA), Leipzig Film Festival (Germany) or Panafrican Film Festival. The films present the daily reality of developing countries (so-called countries of the Global South) as well as aid given to those countries.
Homo Faber will present 4 films from the Warsaw festival.

All films are with Polish and English subtitles.

The Boy Mir: Ten Years In Afghanistan
dir. Phil Grabsky (2010)
In the film, the director tracks cheeky, enthusiastic Mir from a childish eight to a fully grown eighteen-year-old.  This is a journey into early adulthood in one of the toughest places on earth and a journey that mirrors the vitally important story of Afghanistan.

Scrap Odyssey

dir. Paweł Ferdak and Łukasz Gutt (2010)
Almost all the post-Soviet metal scrap of Kyrgyzstan has already been sold to China.  The growing empire is feeding on the remnants of the fallen Colossus. The phenomenon is shown on a micro scale through the hard work of a Russian truck driver, the slow rhythm of one Kyrgyz family's life, and  a few events from a long journey across the Tien Shan Mountains.

Solartaxi: Around the World with the Sun
dir. Eric Schmitt (2010)
“When the whole world talks about climate change, it’s time to show the solutions. If you wanna know how one of these solutions is on the road for one and a half years with 6 square meters of solar power on its back, watch this film.” Louis Palmer (creator of the solartaxi - car running on solar batteries, who visited 40 of the world's countries during his 18-month trip by this car).

Il castello (The Castle)
dir. M. d'Anolfi and M. Parenti (2011)
A documentary about Malpensa airport, a place where bureaucracy, procedures and control put a serious strain on the freedom of individuals, animals and goods passing through. The airport is a strategic place where all law enforcement agencies of the country come together. Here's where new control measures are tested: a permanent security testing area unlike any other public place.
