This week in Lublin

As it's the week before Easter, the newsletter is a bit slimmer than usual, since the majority of events are of religious or semi-religious character. Still, you might be interested in some of the stuff below:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL

The coming weekend is Easter Weekend, which means that on Sunday and Monday a great majority of shops and public institutions will be closed, and the public city transport will run according to the WIELKANOC,BOŻE NARODZENIE,NOWY ROK (Easter, Christmas, New Year) section of the timetable. Also on Saturday some shops may be closed or close earlier than usual, so make sure you do your shopping in advance.
Because it's such an important religious holiday in Poland, there isn't much that's happening apart from religious events, but we have an additional proposal for you (check out the AT HOMO FABER section).

If the ideas of veganism and animal rights are close to your heart, you might be interested in Jill's Film (UK 2005), a film tribute to Jill Phipps, animal rights activist who died crushed to death by a lorry when she was trying to stop calves being transported for slaughter. The film will be shown as part of a meeting about veganism at Cafe-Bookshop SPÓŁDZIELNIA (ul. Peowiaków 11)  on 19th April (Tue) at 5.30 p.m.

ART EXHIBITION

Kilka s(ł)ów by Katarzyna Piątkowska - exhibition opening
Chatka Żaka, ul. Radziszewskiego 16

Katarzyna Piątkowska is a student at the UMCS Art Department and laureate of several art and literary competitions in Poland and abroad. She's the author of many painting and photography exhibitions as well as of five poetry books.
The exhibition name is a pun (Kilka - a few, several, s(ł)ów  - words/owls). The works present various emotional states, here expressed by owls' faces. As a nocturnal bird, the owl is an ideal medium for showing what we'd like to hide, whether it is something that hurts or pleases us too much.

AT HOMO FABER

If you're afraid of finding yourself at a loose end during the Easter weekend, come to a little cultural trip organised by us on Saturday 23rd at noon. We'll tell you some interesting stuff about Lublin and about the way Easter is celebrated in Poland, and we'll take you around a few places where you'll be able to see for yourselves what the celebrations look like. Afterwards we can go for a coffee (or something of the kind) together and get to know each other a bit better. If you're interested in the trip, please let us know by Thursday (write to Ania at ad@hf.org.pl).

Additionally, if you need a place where you'd like to organise something (a little party or a chat with friends over a cup of coffee) over the Easter weekend, do let us know and we might be able to help you (our office is quite spacious :) ).
