TODAY'S TRIP: A REMINDER
Today we are taking a stroll around Lublin's cultural institutions. We are starting at Homo Faber, Krakowskie Przedmieście 39 (map)., 5 p.m. sharp, so please be there a few minutes before the hour.
ACTIVE WEDNESDAY: A REMINDER
This Wednesday we invite you to an interesting encounter with Polish cinema, 5 p.m. at our office. The film is a surprise; it will be subtitled in English.
NEXT MONDAY on 31th October, on the eve of All Saints' Day, we'll be visiting one of the oldest cemeteries in Lublin to look from this perspective at the history of the city and its inhabitants.
Point of departure: Homo Faber (4.40 pm) / Cemetery in ul. Lipowa (5 p.m.)

SOUTH-NORTH FESTIVAL
24th-28th October
The festival, co-organised by Homo Faber, consists of two projects: 'Africa and dramatic climate changes' and 'The world on a plate'.

Into Eternity (Sweden/Finland/Italy 2009), dir. Michael Madsen and Jesper Bergmann
A documentary on the safety of nuclear storage.
Gasland (USA 2010), dir. Josh Fox
The film focuses on communities in the United States impacted by natural gas drilling and, specifically, a stimulation method known as hydraulic fracturing.

5 p.m. We Feed the World (Austria 2005) dir. Erwin Wagenhofer
It's a film about food and globalisation, fishermen and farmers, long-distance lorry drivers and high-powered corporate executives, the flow of goods and cash flow–a film about scarcity amid plenty. With its unforgettable images, the film provides insight into the production of our food and answers the question what world hunger has to do with us .
6.40 p.m. Recipes for Disaster (Finland 2008) dir. John Webster
In this entertaining and educational documentary, filmmaker John Webster puts his family on a year-long "oil diet" to reduce their carbon footprint.

The financial and food crises that have been rocking the world since 2008 have had a little known side effect: they sparked a mad race for control of farmlands all around the planet. Three continents and three examples that tell one and the same story: the story of a gigantic game of Monopoly, and the consequences it could have if nothing is done to protect the interests of small farmers and developing countries.

The film exposes the devastating effects that agrochemicals used on Costa Rica's pineapple and banana plantations have on workers, communities and the environment.
