Writing Letters Marathon

Writing Letters Marathon takes place every year on the weekend in the vicinity of International Human Rights Day (10 December). Then for 24 hours without a break we write letters by hand (!) in defense of a dozen individuals whose rights have been broken. We demand the release of prisoners of conscience and to cease harassment of human rights defenders. Oppose injustice.

The idea picked up the sections of Amnesty in other countries. Over the years we wrote a total of more than one million letters.

Last year we sent 295 thousand calls, of which 78,843 from the Polish. In Poland, the action was at the same time in about 100 cities and villages.

It was organized by volunteers from local groups of Amnesty and adolescents with school groups of Amnesty.

The result of the Marathon in Lublin in 2008 was more than 2500 letters. Members of the local group believe that this year the number of the letters will be also impressed. This year the letters will be written at:

- Klub Przestrzeń Inicjatyw Twórczych TEKTURA, ul. Wieniawska 15a

- Akademickie Centrum Kultury “Chatka Żaka”, ul. Radziszewskiego 16

  1. -Prywatne Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Paderewskiego, ul. Symfoniczna 1

- Stowarzyszenia Homo Faber, ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 39

The program of the Marathon will be available soon (in polish):
