Złote Mrówkojady (Golden Anteaters) 2011

The Lublin Independent Film Gala Złote Mrówkojady is already five years old!

It's the most frequently venue-changing film festival in Lublin (throughout its history, it has only twice taken place at the same venue). The Anteaters started off at Centrum Kultury (the Cultural Centre) at Peowiaków 12; later they moved to Lublin University of Technology (Politechnika Lubelska); and then via the Chatka Żaka Art Studio they reached their present venue of the TVP Lublin Studio. Thanks to the passion and enthusiasm of the organisers, after its four editions the festival has become a recognisable brand among Poland's independent cinema events.

It was not an easy choice for the Qualifying Committee to choose the best works. “We are always anxious about what will happen if too few good entries are submitted. This year the problem was with too many good ones,” says Andrzej Rusin, the festival's programme director.

The festival's distinct characteristic is an unconventional approach to presenting awards to the authors and a very careful selection of the films. Only the best of amateur productions and student short films of 2010/11 will be shown at this year's Anteaters.

The Qualifying Committee has received films from all over the world, e.g. from India, Russia, Finland, USA, France, Italy and Israel. Many of the authors will come to Lublin. Just like last year, the artists, jurors and audience members will take part in a discussion panel.

“I'm glad that the viewers will have the opportunity to see so many good productions. I'm also pleased with the foreign entries, especially that their authors often address very different themes than their Polish counterparts,” says Maciej Misztal, the festival's Director.

The competition was divided into two blocks: Amateur Films and Student Short Films. The screenings are planned for 14th-15th April (Thu and Fri). The winners will be announced at the Gala on 16th April.
