22.03 (8 p.m.) Uncle Boonmee, Who Can Recall His Past Lives
Thailand/UK/France/Germany/Spain/Netherlands 2010 (language: Thai with Polish subtitles)
dir. Apichatpong Weerasethakul
An elusively poetic film that captivated the Cannes festival audience. A film about ghosts, past lives and the fear of death. The eponymous Uncle Boonmee, played by non-professional Thanapat Saisaymar, is a middle-aged man who is terminally ill with acute kidney failure; he has returned to the forests of north-eastern Thailand to settle his affairs concerning a modest property he has there. An evening meal there assumes the character of a Buddhist Last Supper, as the group is visited by the ghost of Boonmee's dead wife Huay and other supernatural beings.
23.03 (8 p.m.) The Disappearance of Alice Creed
UK 2009
dir. J. Blakeson
The frequently exploited theme of kidnapping for ransom is given in this film a new lease of life. Taking place almost entirely within the same four walls, the film keeps the audience sitting on the edge of their chairs throughout.

A married couple who have managed to remain blissfully happy into their autumn years are surrounded over the course of the four seasons of one average year by friends, colleagues, and family who all seem to suffer some degree of unhappiness.

UK/France/Italy/Belgium/Spain 2009
