Which medicines are reimbursed?

On the basis of a prescription issued by a health insurance doctor or a doctor who is not a health insurance doctor but has the right to perform the profession and has concluded a contract with the National Health Fund, authorizing him or her to issue prescriptions subject to reimbursement, the patient shall be entitled to the supply of drugs and medical goods.

Reimbursed drugs are issued free of charge, for a lump fee or partial payment. Lists of reimbursed medicines and the type of payment are defined by relevant Regulations of the Minister of Health.
In addition, reimbursement applies to magistral preparations prepared in the pharmacy, meeting specific conditions.

Important:
- a pharmacist is under the obligation to inform the patient about the possibility to purchase another drug than the one prescribed (a drug with the same international name, dose, pharmaceutical form and the same therapeutic indication), whose price does not exceed the price limit. This does not apply to a situation when the doctor has made an annotation "do not change" on the prescription,
- magistral preparations are prepared within no more than 48 hours from the submission of a prescription by a patient, and in the case of a prescription for a magistral preparation containing intoxicating or agents marked as "to be issued immediately" - within 4 hours,

Time for the execution of prescriptions:
- cannot exceed 7 days from the date of issue in the event of a prescription for antibiotics and a prescription issued under immediate assistance,
- cannot exceed 30 days from the date of issue for other prescriptions,
- cannot exceed 120 days from the date of issue in the case of a prescription for drugs imported from abroad for individual users on the terms provided for in separate regulations,
- cannot exceed 90 days from the date of issue in the case of a prescription for immunological preparations for an individual patient.
